This September outing was one of few times Mark could spend with his Granddaughters this summer. Earlier in the year his declining health placed him in Fulton County and Toledo hospitals. Then in July he received a liver transplant, staying several weeks at the Cleveland Clinic and a convalescent home. It's now mid September and the Swishers continue traveling to the Cleveland Clinic due to complications in his recovery. Mark's November fund raiser is an effort of family friends, to help with Mark's mounting medical expenses. Click here to download the flyer we've been circulating for this fund raiser. update October 5- Mark had a checkup at Cleveland Clinic this week. His Doctors are changing his medication and running more tests on his new liver. He continues to have blood work drawn at least once a week so the doctors can keep an eye on his system. Mark's diabetes continues to fluctuate from very high to very low and he's down to 120 pounds. He is walking and getting around better, now using a cane more than his walker. He had dropped a few of his medications but continues to take his anti rejection meds and antibiotics. Last week he had a blood transfusion at Fulton Co Health Center and he's getting physical therapy 3 to 4 times a week at home. update October 16- Last week, Mark's appetite diminished, he became dehydrated and dropped to 110 pounds. Beth took him back to the Cleveland Clinic for four days. The Doctors spotted a rare reaction to one of his anti rejection meds. After replacing this medicine he was allowed to return home. update October 26- The Swishers returned to the Cleveland Clinic were Mark had a biopsy taken of his liver. The test results are showing signs of rejection. He returned to Wauseon but has to go into the FCHC for increased meds thru an IV. update November 1- Mark was sheduled for bone density tests in Cleveland on Oct 31, but hadn't felt well for a couple days and postponed it. Then he got a call that blood tests from FCHC were showing his enzymes and blood sugar were out of balance and the Doctors wanted him to return to Cleveland. Beth took him back to Cleveland Monday night, were they're running more tests, including an ultrasound of his liver. |
